a clay mule August 29, 2006
Last week we rowed Amber on the Mountain. I had Zuzu try her hand at making a clay mule like Amber’s gift to her friend Anna. Here’s her sculpture.

We visited the Cheyenne Botanic Gardens on Saturday. The weather was perfect and the kids enjoyed strolling through the gardens, watching the fish, and throwing a styrofoam airplane around in the park. Baby J sampled some mud.
Zuzu has really been interested in helping out around the house and eagerly does chores that don’t involve her bedroom. I was amazed last night that she put all of our groceries away while I was busy taking care of the baby.
We had a counting day while out shopping the other day, and she counted one purse, two vans, three pairs of pants, etc. all the way up to twenty before we reached the mall’s playland. I’m a FlyLady fan and decided to try a variation of the 27 Fling Boogie with Zuzu: I ask her to go into her room or the living room or wherever and pick up 27 (or 13 or even just 5) things and put them away. It helps her practice counting and enables her to make a dent in the clutter without overwhelming her.
What Type of Homeschooler Are You?

Abraham Lincoln
You have a Bible and a library card. What more could you possibly need? You prefer the Charlotte Mason Method of reading living books for everything: historical fiction, biographies, real histories, nature guides, etc. No soon-to-be-outdated textbooks for you. Take this quiz!
My homeschooling philosophy is definitely eclectic. I do appreciate the Charlotte Mason approach, though, and think she was a spunky albeit prim and proper lady who no doubt would have deemed much of my reading material “twaddle.” I’ve been using a casual form of narration with Zuzu and would like to start taking nature walks and making nature journals this fall.
